Red chili price fluctuations are an important issue in food commodity trading because they directly affect consumers’ purchasing power, traders’ profits, and local economic stability. This study aims to analyze the mechanism of fair price formation (tsaman al-mitsl) and red chili price equilibrium from the perspective of Islamic economics at Besuki Traditional Market, Situbondo Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through interviews, market transaction observations, and documentation, and were analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that red chili prices at Besuki Traditional Market move dynamically according to changes in supply, seasonal conditions, weather, distribution costs, product quality, and consumer demand. Under normal supply conditions, prices tend to remain stable, while supply disruptions lead to price increases as a form of market adjustment. From the perspective of Islamic economics, the price formation mechanism tends to reflect the principle of tsaman al-mitsl because it is shaped through bargaining, price transparency, and mutual consent between sellers and buyers. Within the scope of the collected data, there is no strong indication of hoarding (ihtikar), monopoly, or price manipulation. Nevertheless, supply chain monitoring and periodic price recording remain necessary to strengthen market justice and public welfare.
