This study examines the financial dilemma of Muslim Generation Z in using paylater or Buy Now Pay Later services from the perspective of Islamic economics. The issue is important because paylater has become embedded in digital shopping practices, while sharia financial literacy has not fully kept pace with digital credit access. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach through library research. Data were collected from regulations, national financial literacy reports, industry reports, scientific articles, and books published from 2020 onward, including works by lecturers of UINSI Samarinda. The data were analyzed using thematic content analysis. The findings show that the dilemma is shaped by instant credit access, lifestyle pressure, fear of missing out, limited ability to read contracts and financing costs, and weak self-control in distinguishing needs from wants. From an Islamic economic perspective, paylater must be criticized when it contains interest, late-payment penalties, unclear costs, excessive consumption, and mechanisms that weaken wealth protection. The study recommends Gen Z-oriented sharia financial literacy and transparent sharia-compliant digital financing.
